The President-Elect faces a once-in-an-epoch necessity to transform a broken national ‘growth model’—but he must be able to transform himself to achieve it. By understanding the concept of a “Leadership Invitation”, we can all see how we must change ourselves to transform our organizations when they are under intense evolutionary pressures to adapt… or die

According to our methodology and philosophy of change, Bio-Transformation Theory & Practice®, every leader has a “Leadership Invitation” to respond to in any given moment. A Leadership Invitation sits within the lacuna — the gap — between who we are right now and who we need to become to solve the pressing transformational challenges of our organization as it deals with the relentless problems to solve thrown up by the evermore digital, disrupted, and damaged world.

As I write in Now Lead the Change: Repurpose Your Career, Future-Proof Your Organization, and Regenerate Our Crisis-Hit World by Mastering Transformational Leadership:

Every imperative for an organization to transform therefore includes within it a Leadership Invitation. The invitation is simple: are you willing to look the issues you face in the eye, see them as “Transformational Challenges” rather than downgrade them to be technical problems, and challenge the assumptions that are locking you in place? …

It is easy to talk about the importance of resilience. It is much tougher to know how to build it with concrete daily practices. Discover nine evidence-based methods for generating the bounce-backness you need to flourish in intense times.

There is a ‘perfect storm’ of crises brewing that will test our individual and collective resilience for years to come. Covid-19 is just the amuse bouche. As we live through the most challenging health crisis, socio-political crisis, and economic crisis in recent history, we must all invest real time, energy, and attention to building our own resilience. Otherwise we as individuals, and as a species, simply won’t flourish. Nobody can build resilience for us. But resilience is everyone’s birthright.

As I detail in my book ‘Now Lead The Change; Repurpose Your Career, Future-Proof Your Organization, and Regenerate Our Crisis-Hit World By Mastering Transformational Leadership’, the novel coronavirus is demonstrating that societies that prioritize productivity, consumer addictions, and GDP above all else lack the psychological and physiological resilience — and healthcare and welfare ‘redundancies’ (excess capacity to cope with surges) — needed in a profound and prolonged crisis. …

Understanding the archetypal blueprint and pathway for achieving lasting, positive change in yourself and the systems you participate in

In our methodology and philosophy for leading and living sustained, future-positive change, Bio-Transformation Theory & Practice, nothing is as important to grok as the Transformation Curve.

Although the process of transformation is utterly fluid and non-linear — from moment of awareness that something feels like mismatch right through to final delivery of a breakthrough solution into the world — there are key moments on the Transformation Curve that can be identified as discrete steps. By understanding these steps both cognitively and emotionally, you can better lead yourself, teams, organizations, and system to the next step; and beyond.

In 1999, at the height of the dot com boom, I was a 25-year old full of chutzpah (but little chochma, the Hebrew word for wisdom) at a buzzing roof-top party of the infamous “New Economy” magazine Industry Standard. Like Fast Company magazine, it was one of a number of media boosters of the technology bubble. Unlike Fast Company, it is no longer with us.

The party was jammed full of people who dreamed of building something amazing, something that would change the world, and something that they would be rewarded for with an industry sale or big IPO — the exit-above-all-exits where you sell your stake in your company on the stock market and make your billions. …

What are the features of regenerative ‘business models’ — and how do we play our ideal role in manifesting a renaissance of capitalism and liberal democracy around regenerative ideals?

When someone asks me what a ‘regenerative business’ or ‘regenerative innovation’ is, I must remind them that the desire to codify, predict, and define things is what I call Control & Protect Mode (or ‘analytical consciousness’) wanting to get things ‘right’ or believe it has the answers based on the past. The other mode of human consciousness, Create & Connect Mode, knows that there are infinitely different ways to become a regenerative business. It depends on the nature of the light of the business’s purpose, its culture, capabilities and histories, and, above all, the context within which the organization operates.

Regenerative businesses are consciously awake and alive. Regenerative business leaders understand that their organization is not a lifeless mechanism sitting within an inert material reality; where one can replicate an ethical or sustainable business model from someone else based on some MBA case studies. Transformational and regenerative leaders understand that their organization is a complex, adaptive, living system that thrives (or not) within a living biological world. …

What kind of organizing system does humankind need to usher in a regenerative future for all?

This is an extract from my new book: Now Lead The Change: Repurpose Your Career, Future-Proof Your Organization, and Regenerate Our Crisis-Hit World:

The Triple Threat of the digital, disrupted, and damaged world is not going anywhere no matter how much we might want it to. None of us gets a choice in this: we all have to deal with them to some degree, even if we are just about to retire. Nowhere on Earth is safe from freak weather, global pandemics, or tanking pension funds. What is more, these drivers of change will hit us at the same time. They are not just trends to manage. They are destabilizing and disrupting the fundamental ‘Operating System’ (O.S.) …

What do we mean when we say a project, leader, business, or system is ‘regenerative’?

It is easy to say a project, product, person, or business is ‘regenerative’. It is much harder to define what that means; evaluate where it can be more regenerative; and guide, lead, and manage self, enterprises, and system towards regenerative outcomes (as we do at the regenerative transformation think/do tank I co-founded).

Whilst I often summarize regenerative as “leaving it better”, this is a gross and absurd simplification for those that yearn to design, manage, and lead really regenerative businesses and systems; and help usher in the Regenerative Renaissance so many of us yearn for. Regenerative models, thinking, and leadership are currently very much Business As Unusual. But this is the only way forward, as many have realized. …

Solving profoundly challenging problems in complex, adaptive systems — like the Covid-19 pandemic, mass individual depression, the climate emergency, systemic racism, obesity and diabetes, political partisanship, identity politics in systems, business adaptation to exponential technologies, shifting to regenerative socio-economic systems etc. — are the focus of most transformational leaders. Yet how we lead teams, groups, and networks to concrete, high-impact, and high-value solutions — and well as the implementation of those solutions in symphonic ways across multiple actors and organizations — is perhaps the most profound challenge for a leader. Herein lies a way forward.

Working alone — in a cabal of genii who all think alike — will be unlikely to solve such problems with the diversity and requisite variety needed. Such closed innovation is a mismatch for the moment, what I call a MiMo. Even if we do come up with transformative and regenerative solutions, they must still be implemented across a system, which requires activating the hearts, minds, and behaviors of many people. Most will, thankfully, not think, feel, or act like we do. …

How an emerging Culture Hero can resolve the bloody Memetic War we are all in — and which threatens everything in our world as we cope with Covid-19 and the climate emergency — by consciously blending the cognitive complexity of science with embodied wisdom — to break out of modernity. It’s time to get ‘metamodern’ — as a Transformer: change-makers in disguise.

This is a 2nd installment of a series I am coming to call The Modernity Emergency.

The first essay explores the violent culture war we are all living through, seen most obviously in the weaponized memes clustering around Covid-19 vaccine science vs. vaccine conspiracies; Bill Gates as triumphant technocratic vs. globalist devil; Black Lives Matter vs. Make America Great Again etc. etc. etc..

In this 2nd piece, I set out how we can play our part in ending the war—and winning the peace—if we become Transformers who intertwine (in body as much as mind) the evidence-based truths of science with the unalienable truth of non-dual spirituality.

Why conflicts around conspiracies and civil liberties — and scientific insights and spiritual intuitions — reveal a fight for the future of our species

The Covid-19 pandemic has revealed that we are in an intense Modernity Emergency. Our current ideas and ideals as a species are a mismatch for the moment, causing a series of crises as we clash with the chaotic complexity of nature. This has been illustrated by a fresh eruption of hostilities in the centuries-old war between religion and science. What is new with this latest installment is that libertarians and spiritualists are joining forces in a ‘Rebel Alliance’ that — by spreading compelling alternative explanations and activating as a global movement — is challenging the scientific grip on the narrative. Unless we resolve this emergency about what we believe about truth, health, our environment, and our rights and responsibilities as citizens, this war threatens to engulf our society. …
